Albert Schiffers

Hyazinth Hubert Albert Schiffers (born August 5, 1864 in Aachen ; † April 26, 1940 there ) was a German freight forwarder and president of the Aachen Chamber of Commerce .

Live and act

The son of the freight forwarder Carl Schiffers (1821–1891) and Josefine Jungschläger (1823–1898) trained as a forwarding agent in their father's company and took over the company after the father's death. On his founding initiative, the forwarding companies Carl Schiffers, Charlier & Scheibler , Gebr. Heucken & Co., Charles Fischer and Lünenschloß merged to form "Speditions- und Lagerhaus Aktiengesellschaft" (SPELAG) with headquarters on Jülicherstrasse in the industrial area of Aachen-Nord . After the merger, Schiffers took over the position of the new General Director of SPELAG. Two years later he also integrated the Cologne freight forwarding company Arthur Francken, which made Cologne the second main branch next to Aachen. He set up branches in Rotterdam , Arnheim , Venlo , Oldenzaal , Zevenaar and Kaldenkirchen, among others . Until 1932, Schiffers was able to keep its business independently on the market, then the shares were initially taken over by Schenker & Co and finally the two companies merged in 1936, whereby SPELAG was continued as a GmbH .

In addition to his full-time commitments skipper was from 1905 to 1929, first as a commercial judge and later as Handelsgerichtsrat. In addition, he was a member of the board of the Aachen Chamber of Commerce from 1908 and was vice-president from 1924 and president of this institution from 1927 to 1933. He was also a member of the Aachen City Council from 1907 to 1914 and was a member of the Deutsche Bank committee . After the First World War , from which he was released with the EK II , he joined both the Club Aachener Casino and the Erholungsgesellschaft Aachen, which he headed as president for several years. In addition, Schiffers took over the honorary office of Vice Consul in 1925 and later that of Honorary Consul of Finland. Before 1934 he was made an honorary citizen of RWTH Aachen University for his diverse services .

Albert Schiffers was married to Elisabeth Sinn (1875–1948), daughter of the businessman Franz Sinn.
