Albert Schinz

Albert Schinz (born March 9, 1870 in Neuchâtel , † December 19, 1943 in Iowa City ) was an American Romance scholar and literary scholar of Swiss origin.

Life

Schinz graduated from the University of Neuchâtel in 1892 with a degree in theology with the thesis La nature du péché. Etude psychologique sur le péché dans ses rapports avec le sentiment moral, la liberté morale et trois points essentiels de la dogmatique chrétienne . He studied further in Berlin and received his doctorate in 1894 from the University of Tübingen . Then he went to Paris. In 1896 he was a private lecturer at the University of Neuchâtel. In 1897 he went to the United States and was an instructor for French at Clark University (until 1898) and at the University of Minnesota (until 1899). He became an Associate Professor of French at Bryn Mawr College (until 1913), at Smith College (until 1928), and finally Professor at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia (until 1941).
