from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Albert Schmidt (born March 20, 1802 in Magdeburg ; † September 11, 1881 ) was a German entrepreneur.

Life

In 1838 Schmidt founded the sugar factory Gebrüder Schmidt and Coqui in Westerhüsen south of Magdeburg together with his brother Herrmann Schmidt and Henri Coqui . The sugar factory was the second company of its kind in the Magdeburg Börde , one of the main growing areas for sugar beet, and existed for about 80 years.

Albert Schmidt himself lived at Peterstraße 23 in Magdeburg and organized the commercial affairs there, although he often stayed in Westerhüsen himself. He is described as energetic, serious, dutiful and reserved.

Schmidt married twice, and both women died at a young age. His son Gustav Schmidt , born in 1844, emerged from the first marriage, Robert, born in 1848, and Paul Schmidt , born in 1856 , from the second marriage . Gustav later became a well-known entrepreneur himself. Paul was a member of the Reichstag for a time. In addition, a daughter also reached adulthood. Several other children died in childhood. Schmidt's second wife died when Paul was born in 1856.
