Albert Trachsel
Albert Trachsel (born December 23, 1863 in Nidau , † January 26, 1929 in Geneva ) was a Swiss painter, architect and writer.
Albert Trachsel studied architecture at the École des Beaux-Arts in Geneva, continued his studies at the Zurich Polytechnic in 1881 and in Paris in 1882. Around 1885 he showed his first designs for visionary architecture. In Paris he met the French symbolists, u. a. Paul Gauguin , Stéphane Mallarmé , Paul Verlaine and Jean Moréas . Ferdinand Hodler was one of his friends .
In 1891 he exhibited his architectural drawings at the Société des Artistes Indépendants . An article by Stuart Merrill about Albert Trachsel appeared in the symbolist magazine La Plume in 1893 .
Trachsel published imaginary architectural designs in 1897 under the title “ Les fêtes réelles ”.
In 1901 he returned to Geneva and turned to painting. His first oil paintings were created in 1902. In 1903 he went on a trip through Switzerland, from which he brought numerous watercolors. In the period from 1905 to 1914 he created a series of dream landscapes that formed his main work. After 1910 he also painted still lifes with flowers and fruits. In addition to painting, he also wrote dramas and short stories, among others. a. the lyrical play “ Le Gnome Hombax chez les sorcières ” and the volume of short stories “ La Montagne fantastique ”. Since 1915 he has almost exclusively created watercolors from the Geneva area.
