Albert Waag
Albert Waag (born June 10, 1863 in Mannheim , † June 8, 1929 in Heidelberg ) was a Privy Councilor , philologist , pedagogue, author of numerous educational and philological works.
life and work
Albert Waag is the son of the district cashier Albert W. Waag (* 1820) and his wife Caroline, b. Wolf (* 1834). He himself obtained the general university entrance qualification in 1881 and from the winter semester 1881/82 studied linguistics at the University of Freiburg with a focus on German philology , for which he received his doctorate in 1886. On January 20, 1893, he obtained his habilitation.
Before that he had been employed as a teacher since 1886, in 1896 he was director of the Helmholtz high school in Heidelberg and since March 1897 a member of the Karlsruhe High School Board . From 1911 to 1928 he was director of the Höhere Girls School founded in 1877 and the Realgymnasium, the Hölderlin-Gymnasium . In the winter semester of 1917/18 Waag was appointed full professor at Heidelberg University.
He was with Maria, geb. Ris, married who survived him. The couple had no children.
