Alberto Collo (born July 6, 1883 in Piobesi Torinese , † May 7, 1955 in Turin ) was an Italian actor who enjoyed great success during the silent film era.

Life

Collo comes from a Bolognese family and was initially an apprentice hairdresser when he joined the group of actors around Mario Testa in 1907 , which performed dialect pieces. Soon he was under contract with Arturo Ambrosio , who used him in small roles in a few short comedies for the cinemas. 1909 Colli joined Itala film of Giovanni Pastrone - now than double of André Deed and soon as a prima donna of the force, for which he was used because of its feminine facial features and essential character. Further stations in his silent film career were the Savoia Film in 1910 , the Celio di Roma two years later , the Caesar from 1914 and a short time later the Tiber . During the Italian cinema crisis of the 1920s, he and his partner and director Emilio Ghione formed a stage ensemble with which he undertook various provincial tours until 1928.

As one of the "beauties" of Italian silent film cinema , he starred in important films, such as alongside Francesca Bertini in Assunta Spina (1915), alongside Maria Jacobini in Sfinge (1917) and Anima tormentata (1918), both by Mario Caserini and alongside Italia Almirante in L'arzigigolo by Mario Almirante from 1924. After the introduction of the sound film, Collo was unable to build on his success in any way and only got rare and rather insignificant roles in the second and third member and only started shooting more frequently from 1950 - between 1926 and 1949 he only made four films.

Completely penniless and seriously ill, Collo was only brought back to the public consciousness in 1954 by a radio show in the "Ciak" series, in which donations were collected for him. The Italian President also supported the actor, although the hospital stay that was made possible was unsuccessful.
