Scientific work

His scientific work focuses on three main areas:

a) The economic theory of resource scarcity and structural dynamics with important contributions to basic rent and technical progress. As early as the second half of the 1960s, he used multisectoral, analytical methods to show how the structural changes in technology and technical progress depend both on the changes in the distribution of income in the presence of basic rents, as well as on the reaching of a limit of scarcity for some Resources as well as the combination of the two mentioned elements. Using other analytical methods, he has also studied the impact of investment in education on economic growth.
b) The institutional and applied economies, with particular reference to both European and Italian economies, highlighting two types of development factors: the relationship between institutions, society and the economy on the one hand and the interaction between the various on the other Levels of subsidiarity (vertical and horizontal) as fundamental elements of social liberalism .
c) The history of economic thought, particularly with regard to Italy, beginning with Cesare Beccaria's illuminism in the second half of the 18th century to its recent expansions. A. Quadrio Curzio emphasizes a current of thought that combined scientific-technical progress (that of the "engineer-economists") with cultural progress (of economists who deal with institutions) in a creative and solidary concept of progress.
