Albertus de Bezanis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Albertus de Bezanis was an Italian historian who was elected Abbot of San Lorenzo in Cremona in 1363 . Apart from this personal message in his chronicle, nothing more is known about his life story. Members of the family can be traced back to the 11th century and were often closely related to the monastery of S. Lorenzo. His Cronica pontificum et imperatorum (Chronicle of the Popes and Emperors) extends from the creation of the world to 1370, but only the part of Honorius II and Henry V is fully edited, i.e. from the early 12th century.

Martin von Troppau was the model for the structure of the chronicle and the division into papal and imperial history . The Italian trains of Henry VII and Ludwig of Bavaria are described in more detail . Extensive news can be found on the history of Lombardy , Brescias and especially Cremonas, which for the last decades of the reporting period probably go back to your own knowledge. In addition to Martin von Troppau, Albertus used the pantheon of Gottfried von Viterbo and the Chronicle of Sicard von Cremona as models . There are also chronical excerpts from the Legenda aurea of Jacobus de Voragine , from the chronicle of Mark Treviso by Rolandus Patavinus , for the older times Paulus Deacon and Bede . In addition to lost Cremonese annals , Albertus was able to use documents from the monastery archives, as well as canonical text collections.

The beginning of his chronicle is usually followed by the usual in Cremona Annunziationsstil on March 25, but is also, probably after templates Christmas early and 1st January preceding. His Latin, especially the spelling , is strongly influenced by the Italian Volgare.

The author's copy, which is also the only carrier of tradition, is the Urb manuscript . lat. 394 of the Vatican Library .
