Albin Eduard Beau

Albin Eduard Beau (born December 23, 1907 in Hamburg ; † March 1, 1969 in Coimbra ) was a German philologist, Romanist and Lusitanist .

life and work

Beau studied in Hamburg, received his doctorate in 1930 on Stendhal's relationship to music, and in the same year became a German lecturer at the German Institute of Coimbra University . He received his doctorate there again in 1943 with As relações germânicas do humanismo de Damião de Góis (Coimbra 1941), completed his habilitation on April 20, 1944 in Berlin with Franz Six on The Development of Portuguese National Consciousness (Hamburg 1945) and became professor of German in Coimbra. From 1943 he was also general secretary of the German Cultural Institute in Lisbon.
