from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Albrecht III. von Leisnig († March 2, 1312 ) was bishop of Meissen from 1296 to 1312 .

Albrecht III. came from the castle counts of Leisnig (see also Leisnig Castle ). His father was Burgrave Albrecht II and his brother Albrecht took over as Burgrave Albrecht III. the Lords Leisnig, Rochsburg, Mützschen and Strehla. Albrecht III. was first canon in Meissen. During his time, the kings Adolf von Nassau and Albrecht von Habsburg tried to expand their power to the margraviate of Meißen. In the Battle of Lucka , Margrave Friedrich I decided the conflict for himself and the House of Wettin . An alliance of the cathedral chapter and the Magdeburg Metropolitan obtained his excommunication. This dispute was resolved in Treaties 1307 and 1311.

He was buried in a crypt in Meissen Cathedral . In 1375 Konrad II von Kirchberg-Wallhausen was buried next to him . Its sandstone slab without a picture has not survived, but its inscription has been handed down.
