Konrad II of Kirchberg-Wallhausen († May 26, 1375 ) was Bishop of Meissen .

Life

Konrad came from a lower noble family in Thuringia who came from the area around Jena and was in contact with the burgraves of Wallhausen there. In 1332 he can be traced back to Wallhausen as a pastor and in 1343 he became a notary for Margrave Friedrich . The latter seems to have got him a canon at the cathedral in Meissen, because in 1345 he enrolled at the University of Bologna as canon and master of the diocese.

In Bologna he also became procurator of the German nation and returned to Meissen in 1348, where he became protonotary of the margrave. In 1357 he obtained the title of provost of the monastery chapter of Zscheila-Großenhain, in 1358 he became archdeacon of Niederlausitz, in 1367 provost in Bautzen and in 1370 he was elected bishop in Meißen. After he was confirmed by the Pope in 1371, as bishop he had to deal with the power struggles in Meißen by Charles IV ; he promoted viticulture in Meissen and after his death was buried in front of the cross altar of the Meissen Cathedral .

He received his burial place next to the monument of Bishop Johann von Schleinitz , which was recorded in a graphic representation of the burials in the Meissen Cathedral - around 1593. The bishop was shown in full regalia on his monument. At his feet was the coat of arms of his family, those of Kirchberg. A row of inscriptions refers to the memory holder and his office in Meissen: "... Conradus de Walhusen episcopus Mysnensis".
