Jörg-Werner Marquardt

Jörg-Werner Wolfgang Marquardt (born August 2, 1950 in Wolfratshausen ) is a German diplomat . From 2009 to 2014 he was ambassador to Angola .

biography

After graduating from high school in 1970 and completing his military service in the Bundeswehr , he studied law and economics between 1972 and 1979 and passed the first state examination in 1979 .

In 1980 he entered the diplomatic service and after completing his preparatory service between 1982 and 1985, he was employed at the embassy in Senegal and then in the United Kingdom . After returning to Germany, he worked as a consultant in the legal department of the Foreign Office from 1988 to 1991 , before working as consul general in Recife until 1994 .

In 1994 he was initially deputy head of the central department at the Foreign Office and from 1995 to 1997 coordinator for international personnel policy. During his work at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York City , he was on loan to the UN Secretariat between 1997 and 1998 . He then stayed in New York City and found uses in the information office and then again at the Permanent Mission to the UN from 1999 to 2002.

After his return to Germany, he was Head of Division in the Foreign Office between 2002 and 2006 and then Consul General in Cape Town .

In October 2009 Jörg-Werner Marquardt succeeded Bernd Morast as Ambassador in Angola. He held this office until 2014.
