Bernd Morast

Bernd Max Morast (born June 22, 1949 in Bretten ) is a German diplomat who was ambassador to Burundi from 1996 to 1999 , to Mauritania from 2001 to 2004 , to Angola from 2007 to 2009 and most recently to Brunei between September 2011 and September 2012 was.

Life

After graduating from high school in 1968, Morast only worked in business for a year and then studied political science , economics and sociology at the University of Konstanz from 1969 to 1973 . In 1977 he completed his doctorate there with a dissertation on the subject of the South African racial policy. "Separate development" and white supremacy .

He then joined the foreign service in 1978 and, after completing his career examination in 1980, was initially employed at the Foreign Office in Bonn and then from 1981 to 1984 at the embassy in Malaysia . After a subsequent position at the Consulate General in New York City , he returned to the headquarters of the Foreign Office between 1987 and 1990. Between 1990 and 1993 he was Deputy Head of Mission in Cameroon , and while for some time in 1992 chargé d'affaires ad interim in Zaire and in 1993 just as much in the Ivory Coast .

After working as deputy head of department in the Foreign Office from 1993 to 1996, Morast was first ambassador to Burundi and then from 1999 to 2001 consul general in Thessaloniki . Between 2001 and 2004 he was ambassador to Mauritania and then seconded to the Federal Chancellery as head of department . After he was Ambassador to Angola from 2007 to 2009 , he took part in a one-year advanced training course (Harvard Fellows Program Boston) at Harvard University and was then released for a further year to carry out a research project.

In September 2011 Bernd Morast became ambassador in Brunei to succeed Thomas Bruns , who in turn became the new ambassador to the Dominican Republic . In September 2012, he was followed by Roland Christian Grafe , who was previously head of division in the Federal Foreign Office's disarmament department, as ambassador in Brunei.
