Albrecht IV, Duke of Mecklenburg

Albrecht IV, Duke of Mecklenburg (* before 1363; † between December 24 and 31, 1388 ) was co-regent in Mecklenburg from 1383 to 1388 .

Albrecht IV was the son of the Mecklenburg Duke Heinrich III. and Ingeburg from Denmark. He was appointed King of Sweden as his heir by his grandfather King Waldemar IV. Atterdag in 1371 or 1375 . However, this was not entirely voluntary. For this promise, Waldemar IV received back Scania and all other Danish territories previously conquered by Albrecht's father. But a large part of the nobility rose up against Albrecht, declared him deposed and called Waldemar's daughter Margarethe I to help. In 1376 she appointed her son Olav II as king under her tutelage. Albrecht renounced the throne and, after the death of his father, took over the co-regency in Mecklenburg with his uncle Magnus and his son Johann IV in 1383 . He was married to Elisabeth von Holstein, the daughter of Nikolaus von Holstein-Rendsburg , and died at the end of 1388.
