Albrecht "Abi" Plangger (born March 21, 1960 in Graun im Vinschgau ) is a German-speaking Italian politician from South Tyrol .

Life

Plangger attended the humanistic high school in the Johanneum in Dorf Tirol and then completed a law degree ( laurea in giurisprudenza ) at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan . In 1987 he returned to his home town and began working in the customs administration on the Reschen Pass . From 1990 to 2010 he was mayor of Graun for the South Tyrolean People's Party (SVP). During this time he was particularly involved in the field of energy supply for the South Tyrolean communities.

In the course of the SVP's internal primaries, in which the ranking of candidates for the Chamber of Deputies for the 2013 parliamentary elections was determined, Plangger was able to collect the most preferential votes. In the parliamentary elections on February 24th and 25th, he won a mandate for the Italian lower house as the list leader of his party, which won 24.2% of the votes in the multi-person constituency of Trentino-South Tyrol . In the parliamentary elections in 2018 , he was re-elected with 61.2% of the votes in the single constituency of Merano .
