Albrecht V (Saxony-Lauenburg)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Albrecht V of Saxony-Lauenburg (* around 1335 ; † 1370 ) was Duke of Saxony-Lauenburg from 1356 to 1370 . He ruled over the partial region Mölln and mountain village, which in 1305 real division was formed the duchy. Albrecht's father was Albrecht IV of Saxony-Lauenburg , but Albrecht took over the government from his brother Johann III, who died early .

Albrecht's reign was burdened by high debts. Therefore, in agreement with his brother Erich , he sold the Vogtei, Stadt and Zollstelle Mölln for 9,737 ½ Marks to the Hanseatic City of Lübeck in 1359 . However, he reserved a repurchase right. A year later, in 1360, high debts had accumulated again, so that he undertook another pledge. This time he took money from Duke Erich II of Saxony-Lauenburg , who ruled over the other half of the duchy, and used his residence, the Bergedorf Castle , as security. These two pledges led to war with Lübeck and Hamburg under Erich IV and Erich V and thus to the permanent loss of this half of the duchy.

The lack of money apparently drove Albrecht to find other forms of income; He quickly gained a reputation for favoring muggers and even accommodating them in Bergedorf Castle. The surrounding towns joined forces to conquer and grind the Bergedorf Castle. This plan was dropped because Albrecht was able to come to an understanding with the cities.

A marriage with Katherina von Werle-Güstrow , which took place on January 25, 1366, remained childless. When Albrecht died in 1370, his brother Erich III followed. in the reign after.
