Alburnus istanbulensis is a species of freshwater fish from the carp family . It was originally considered a subspecies of the Mairenke ( Alburnus chalcoides ) and occurs in Turkey .

features

Alburnus istanbulensis reaches a standard length of 226 millimeters. The number of scales on the lateral line organ is 60 to 68. There are 13 to 15½ branched anal fin rays. The origin of the anal fin rays was ½ to 1 ½ scales behind the base of the last dorsal fin ray. The base of the paired fins is translucent or gray in the spawning females (Rognern). The number of gill traps is 24 to 35. The length of the gill traps at the angle of the upper and lower links of the first gill arch is 30 to 55 percent of the opposed gill filaments . The ventral keel shows eight to twelve scales directly in front of the anus.

Occurrence

The distribution area extends from Karasu in Eastern Thrace on the Marmara Sea to Papuç on the Black Sea in Turkey . Well-known sites are Lake Sapanca, Lake Durusu and the Kâathane, Darboğaz and Yıldız rivers on the Bosporus .

Habitat and way of life

Alburnus istanbulensis lives in flowing and standing waters. During the spawning season, the species migrates to the upper reaches of the tributaries. The eggs are laid in rapids with strong currents on the gravel bottom. Foraging is near the surface in the lower reaches of rivers.
