Alcázar (castle)
Alcázar or Alcazaba is a Spanish name for a castle , especially a palace of the Moors in Spain . Sometimes castles that are not of Moorish or Arab origin are also called that. The most common Spanish name for castles and palaces is castillo , see also " Castile ".
The Spanish word alcázar is borrowed from the Arabic القصر / al-qaṣr ("fortress", "castle"). The Arabic qasr is derived from the Latin castrum "field camp". In the Spanish word alcázar , the Arabic article al is incorporated (see agglutination ).
The Alhambra of Granada can also be called alcázar .
