Aldebrando Subissati

Aldebrando Subissati (born April 30, 1606 in Fossombrone in the Marche region , † August 20, 1677 ibid) was an Italian composer and violinist of the Baroque era.

Life

Aldebrando Subissati began his career as a violinist in Rome in 1621, where he was a member of the “capella musicale” of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore . He held other positions at the church of San Luigi dei Francesi (1634–1641), at the theater of the Palazzo Barberini (1639), and in 1640 he was mentioned as a virtuoso in the palace of Pietro Della Valle . From 1645 to 1654 he worked at the royal court of John II Casimir in Warsaw. Based on the payroll, he was the highest paid musician in the Polish court orchestra in 1652 with 1440 guilders (florenóv). Afterwards he stayed in the German-speaking area, temporarily serving Emperor Leopold I.and moved in Rome, around Queen Christina of Sweden. Subissati spent the last ten months of his life in the house of Donna Faustina near Fossombre.

The only manuscript found so far was known from Subissati, which was written between 1675 and 1676, with 20 sonatas for violin and bc under the title " Il primo libro delle sonate di violino del Signor Aldebrando Subissati sonator famosissimo ". The sonatas are of the church sonatas type. It is of interest that most of them can be assigned to the individual days in the liturgical year on the basis of their names. Inventory lists of the Carmelite Monastery in Krakow mention other compositions by Subissati, including "Airs" for 2 violins and a solo sonata, which have been lost.
