Aldeburgh is a small town about 140 km northeast of London on the North Sea coast of the English county of Suffolk , which is particularly known for the Aldeburgh Festival , which Benjamin Britten co-founded . The place is popular as a seaside resort and known for its fishing area.
history
Aldeburgh had a thriving port with significant shipbuilding in the 16th century. The typical Aldeburgh Sprat-boat was built here. The first city in the UK to have a female mayor, Elizabeth Garrett Anderson, since 1908 .

- The Martello Tower : the only remnant of the fishing village of Slaughden, which submerged in the sea in 1936

- The Scallop: the sculpture The Scallop, at the north end of Maggi Hambling's beach, is from 2003
