Aldo Clementi

Aldo Clementi (born May 25, 1925 in Catania , † March 3, 2011 in Rome ) was an Italian composer. He wrote stage, orchestral and choral works , vocal and chamber music as well as electronic music .

Life

Clementi studied piano with Giovanna Ferro from 1938 to 1946 and completed his pianist training in 1947 at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena with Pietro Scarpini , where he also took part in the Siena Music Week . He also took composition lessons from Alfredo Sangiorgio (1943–1948) and Goffredo Petrassi (1952–1954). In 1954 he obtained a composition diploma at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome. From 1956 to 1962 he worked at RAI's Studio di fonologia musicale in Milan. During this time he attended summer courses for new music in Darmstadtand 1961/62 composition courses with Karlheinz Stockhausen in Cologne. Clementi taught from 1971 to 1992 as a professor of composition at the Conservatorio Giovanni Battista Martini in Bologna and at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan.
