Aldubáran

Aldubáran [ ˈaldʊˌbɔaɹan ] ( Faroese : "small breaking wave") is a chamber music ensemble from the Faroe Islands .

It was founded in 1995 by seven young Faroese musicians to primarily play Faroese music. In the meantime (2007) the ensemble consists of 14 professional musicians. The following instruments are used: flute , clarinet , bassoon , horn , trombone , violin , viola , guitar and piano .

Aldubáran has a variety Faroese of works, but also foreign, commissioned composers and premiered, especially by Kristian Blak , Sunleif Rasmussen , Edvard Nyholm Debes , Pauli í Sandagerði , Atli Petersen , Tróndur Bogason , Torkell Sigurbjornsson , Hsueh-Yung Shen , Jesper Koch .

The repertoire also includes composers such as Igor Stravinski , Franz Schubert , Ludwig van Beethoven , Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johannes Brahms .

A high point in Faroese music history is the premiere of the first opera Í Óðamansgarði on October 12, 2006. It was commissioned by Aldubáran and performed musically.
