José Alejandro Suárez Martín , called Alexis (born March 6, 1974 in Las Palmas ) is a former Spanish football player .

Player career

The beginnings - Canary Islands

Alexis started his career as a footballer in his hometown at UD Las Palmas . In his first professional season he was relegated with his team from the Segunda División . After three years in the 3rd division, Alexis moved to the Spanish first division club CD Tenerife in 1995 . In his first season he reached the UEFA Cup with the island kickers . In the 1998/99 season Alexis and his team had to go to the Segunda División.

After a year in which Tenerife repositioned themselves, they were promoted again in 2000/2001 before Atlético Madrid thanks to the better goal difference. The success did not last long, however, so that after only one year with 19th place the descent was due. In the second league year Alexis reached only a midfield position with his team, so he decided to leave the club after eight years.

Ascents and descents

In the summer of 2003 Alexis moved to the second division competitor UD Levante . With the eastern Spaniards, he rose straight away as the first in the table. Again Alexis and his team, in which he had a regular place, could not be happy about the success for long. In the following season they were relegated as the third from last. Still, Alexis stayed in Valencia . His loyalty was rewarded with renewed ascent. After losing his regular place, Alexis went to promoted Real Valladolid in 2007 . He was rarely used there and ended his career in 2008.
