Snookum Russell

Snookum Russell (born April 6, 1913 in Columbia South Carolina as Isaac Edward Russell , † August 1981 ) was an American pianist and bandleader of swing .

Snookum Russell first played drums and piano in local orchestras and worked as a bassist in a band in Florida from 1933 to 1939. He gained importance through an orchestra that he directed from 1939 and 1950 and to which u. a. at times included Fats Navarro , JJ Johnson, and Ray Brown . In 1959 he worked as a soloist in New Orleans .
