Alessandro Longhi (born June 12, 1733 in Venice ; † November 1813 there ) was the leading Venetian portrait painter of the 18th century.

He was the son of Pietro Longhi and learned from his father and from the portrait painter Giuseppe Nogari . In addition to paintings, especially of Venetian dignitaries and nobles (but also simple people from Venice, he hardly depicted foreigners visiting Venice) he was also known for his copperplate engravings. He exhibited for the first time in 1757 and was already established a year later (with portraits of the Pisani family). In 1759 he became a member of the Venetian Academy of Arts.

According to L. Vertova, he attached great importance to the depiction of the substances in his portraits, which, moreover, often show the person smiling and with the insignia of their work. He also liked to keep the paintings in a dominant hue, the gradation of which he then depicted. He was less successful with religious work (as in San Pantalon in Venice).

In 1762 his book Compendio delle Vite de 'Pittori Veneziani Istorici piu rinomati del presente secolo with biographies of Venetian artists was published.
