Alessandro D'Ancona
Alessandro D'Ancona (born February 20, 1835 in Pisa , † November 9, 1914 in Florence ) was an Italian literary historian.
Alessandro D'Ancona first lived in Florence and published an extensive biography of Tommaso Campanella at the age of 18 . The following year he published an edition of the Italian writings of the philosopher (1854, 2 volumes). 1855-58 he studied law in Turin without attaining a degree. On his return to Florence, he headed the editorial staff of the newspaper La Nazione . From 1860 he was a professor of Italian literature in Pisa . After his retirement he taught Esegesi dantesca , the exegesis of Dante's writings, as part of a teaching post from 1900 to 1907 .
D'Ancona has since developed an extremely fruitful and successful literary activity. He reissued numerous old and rare Italian writings, worried u. a. an annotated edition of Dante's Vita nuova . In 1885 he became a corresponding member of the Accademia dei Lincei , and in 1891 socio nazionale (full member). From 1898 he was also a member of the Accademia della Crusca in Florence . In 1904 he was appointed senator of the kingdom and from 1906 to 1907 he was mayor of Pisa.
