Alessio Scarpi (* 19th April 1973 in Jesolo ) is a former Italian football - goalkeeper .

Career

Alessio Scarpi began his career at Cagliari Calcio , where he had already gone through the youth selections. Although the goalkeeper was under contract with Cagliari for four years, he was not used in any Serie A games. In 1995 he moved to Serie B for Reggina Calcio . He immediately managed to secure a regular place and to complete numerous league games with the Calabrians. Two years later he returned to his youth club Cagliari Calcio, where he was used as a regular goalkeeper this time and experienced a promotion and relegation with Cagliari.

When the renewed promotion for Serie A was clearly missed in the 2000/01 season , Scarpi decided to leave the club and sign with AC Ancona . Also with Ancona he was promoted to the top Italian league after the 2002/03 season . In the following season he placed with the team, however, beaten as bottom of the table on a relegation zone. The goalkeeper signed a contract with the second division CFC Genoa in January 2004 in order to forestall relegation from the top division. In fact, Ancona only scored 13 points with only 21 goals this season and 70 goals against, and was therefore not suitable for the first division.

With the Genoese he was able to hold himself in Serie B in the first two seasons and would have been promoted back to Serie A after the 2004/05 season with 76 points as first place. However, due to match-fixing, the club was sentenced to relegation to Serie C1 . In two years in which Scarpi only acted as a substitute goalkeeper, the march through to Serie A succeeded with two promotions. Scarpi was now only used sporadically, as he was ousted by Rubinho and later by Marco Amelia .
