Alesso Baldovinetti (* probably on 14. October 1425 in Florence ; † 29. August 1499 in Florence) was an Italian painter of the Renaissance .

life and work

Baldovinetti was a student of Domenico Veneziano . His early works include the wedding at Cana , the baptism of Christ , and the transfiguration of Christ . The Annunciation and the altarpiece with the four saints for the church of S. Ambrogio in Florence were created in 1470 ; Baldovinetti and his pupil Graffione replaced a tabernacle in the middle of this altar in 1485 with a Maria with the child (1470, Musée du Louvre ).

His picture Lady in Yellow (wood 63x40) was purchased by the National Gallery London as a work by Piero della Francesca (source: National Gallery London by Sir Philip Hendy (page 100 Baldovinetti Lady in Yellow) Bertelsmann Verlag).
