Alexander "Alex" Rollo (born September 18, 1926 in Dumbarton , Scotland , † October 5, 2004 in Whitehaven , England) was a Scottish football player and coach.
Career
Alex Rollo was born in 1926 in Dumbarton , on the west coast of Scotland. He began his football career in the 1940s with Ashfield FC , a club from the Possilpark district of Glasgow, where he grew up. In October 1948 he signed a contract with Celtic Glasgow . The used as defender Rollo made his debut three years later in January 1951 in the league game against FC Motherwell in the first team of Celtic . Rollo was with Celtic in 1951 in the Scottish Cup final and in 1953 in the final of the Coronation Cup . Both finals were won with Rollo in the starting line-up. Rollo played for Celtic until 1954 in 59 competitive games (37 league games) and scored one goal. In 1954 he moved to FC Kilmarnock where he was under contract for two seasons. This was followed by a move to his hometown to the second division club FC Dumbarton where he stayed for one season before coming to England for the lower class AFC Workington . From 1960 to 1961, Rollo was a player-coach with Sligo Rovers in Ireland before retiring. In 2000, an Alex Rollo Celtic jersey sold at Christie's auction house for £ 1,150. Rollo died in Whitehaven in 2004 at the age of 78 .
