Alexander Abraham Zahavi (born January 21, 1991 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American football player with Portuguese and Israeli roots.

Career

society

In his youth, Alex Zahavi played for Hapoel Haifa , Benfica Lisbon , Arsenal FC , FC Barcelona and Sporting Lisbon, among others . He started playing football at Hapoel Haifa at the age of seven until the family moved to Lisbon in 1999 . There he played for Benfica and was discovered by an Arsenal scout at an international youth tournament and lured to London . But two years later, Zahavi was poached by a scout from FC Barcelona. Initially, he was tied to the youth academy for three years, with the option of employment for another seven years. He returned to Lisbon in 2007, but this time he played for Sporting. There Zahavi saw more chances to play for the first team one day.

On July 16, 2010, he completed a trial training at Maccabi Haifa , where he impressed coach Elisha Levy so much that he signed a contract ten days later. However, he did not come to a league assignment and was therefore awarded to Hapoel Akko in February 2011 until the end of the 2010/11 season . For Hapoel Akko he ran a total of ten times by the end of the season. On July 7, 2011, his contract with Maccabi was extended to 2015 and Zahavi was loaned to Vitória Setúbal in the Portuguese Primeira Liga . His first and only league game for Setúbal, however, he completed at the end of the season, in the 1: 3 home defeat on May 12, 2012 against Benfica Lisbon . For the 2012/13 season, Zahavi was awarded to the league competitor and newcomer SC Olhanense , where he did not play a single competitive game.

He has been without a club since summer 2013.

National team

Zahavi first played for the U-17, U-18 and U-19 national team of Portugal, but did not come to an international match. Since he also has US citizenship, Zahavi was nominated for the US U-20 national team and took part in the Torneo de las Americas with this in November 2010 . In the first tournament game against Colombia he scored the 1-0 opening goal, the USA ultimately won on penalties.

On February 20, 2011, Zahavi was nominated for the Israeli U-21 national team . Just three days later, he played a friendly against Arsenal Kiev . On March 17th he was nominated for an international tournament in Austria . Six days later he made his U-21 debut in the game against Georgia , which he won 2-0. Another three days later he scored his first and so far last international goal for Israel's U-21s in the game against Romania .
