Alexander Alexandrowitsch Wolkow ( Russian Александр Александрович Волков , English transcription: Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Volkov ; born February 14, 1985 in Moscow ) is a Russian volleyball player .
Career
Volkov started his career in 2002 at VK Dynamo Moscow . In 2003 he won the European Championship with the Russian Juniors. A year later the title was defended in this competition and the middle blocker was also the Russian runner-up with Dynamo. He then played for one season at VK Lutsch Moscow . In 2005 he became Junior World Champion. On June 4 of the same year Volkov made his senior national team debut in a European league game against Estonia . He then returned to Dynamo and won the national double with the club in 2006. In 2007 Moscow was runner-up and the middle blocker reached the finals in the world league and at the European championship in their own country with the national team . In 2008 Dynamo achieved the double again. Volkov took part in the Olympic tournament in Beijing with the Russians and won the bronze medal. In 2010 Dynamo lost to Trentino Volley in the final of the Champions League and Wolkow also came second in the world league . In the 2010/11 season he played for the Italian first division club BreBranca Lannutti Cuneo , with whom he won the national cup and was runner-up. The national team won both the World League and the World Cup in 2011 . In the same year the middle blocker of VK Zenit-Kazan was signed . In 2012 Kazan won the final of the Champions League against Skra Bełchatów . Then Volkov became Olympic champion with Russia in London .
