Alexander August Borgnis

Alexander August Borgnis (born March 20, 1827 in Frankfurt am Main ; † May 20, 1914 in Hamburg ) was a Hamburg banker and member of parliament.

Life

Borgnis, was the son of the Frankfurt banker Carlo Hieronymus Borgnis (1795–1861) and a brother-in-law of Ernst Merck , came to Hamburg in 1857 and joined the company HJ Merck & Co. in December 1861 as an authorized signatory . after the death of his brother-in-law in 1863, Borgnis became a partner.

Borgnis belonged to the supervisory board of the Norddeutsche Bank from 1863 until his death , from 1893 as chairman. In 1871 Borgnis was elected to the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce , which he headed as President in 1875. Borgnis belonged to the Hamburg citizenship from 1874 to 1876 as a member sent by the Chamber of Commerce .

He married Emma Freiin von Merck on February 13, 1864 in Baden-Baden.
