Alexander Georgievich Baryshnikov
Alexander Georgijewitsch Baryschnikow ( Russian Александр Георгиевич Барышников , English transcription Aleksandr Baryshnikov ; born November 11, 1948 ) is a former Soviet shot putter . He is considered to be the inventor of rotary joint technology.
Previously, other shot putters had already experimented with this technique, but the final breakthrough came with Baryshnikov. He was the first shot putter in the world, which exceeded the 22-meter mark thanks to the new technology. On July 10th, 1976 in Colombes he achieved a width of exactly 22.00 m and thus set a new world record.
His other sporting successes include winning the bronze medal at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal and the silver medal at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. At the 1974 European Championships in Rome , he finished fourth, at the 1978 European Championships in Prague, third.
Alexander Baryschnikow is 1.98 m tall and weighed 130 kg during his active time.
