Sigismund Alexander Baur (born March 13, 1857 in Altona ; † February 5, 1909 there ) was a German lawyer and senator for the city of Altona.

Life

Alexander Baur was the third son of the businessman Georg Friedrich Baur and his wife Caroline Amélie de Chapeaurouge . The founder of Baurs Park , Budget Councilor Georg Friedrich Baur , was his grandfather.

Baur attended the Christianeum and from 1876 studied law at the universities of Bonn, Göttingen, Leipzig and Berlin. In Bonn he became a member of the Corps Palatia and in Göttingen he joined the Corps Hannovera . Baur passed his legal traineeship exam in Berlin in 1879. He did his military service as a prime lieutenant with the Hanoverian Hussars No. 15 . In 1885 he became a court assessor in Altona, where he worked as the city's senator from 1888, mainly in the field of finance. He particularly promoted the art-historical focus in the construction of the Altona Museum . In 1905 he became a member of the Schleswig-Holstein Provincial Parliament. Also in 1905 he was elected Lord Mayor of Altona ; due to a heart condition, however, he could not take office.

Alexander Baur was married to Meta Sophie Emerentia Meyer (born November 21, 1866 in Hamburg; † October 2, 1928 in Altona), daughter of the Hamburg merchant and art collector Arnold Otto Meyer . The marriage produced a son.
