Alexander Bernhuber

Alexander Bernhuber (born May 18, 1992 in St. Pölten ) is an Austrian farmer and ÖVP politician. With more than 30,000 preferential votes , he managed through preferential votes of the entry into the European Parliament , where he joined the EPP Group belongs.

Life

Bernhuber visited the Francisco Josephinum in Wieselburg and then studied crop science at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna until June 2018 . He wrote his diploma thesis on the subject of "Analysis of crop parameters of winter legumes (field beans and peas) compared to summer legumes in the Pannonian climatic area" . Bernhuber runs a farm with arable crops and beef cattle in Lower Austria.

Since March 2015 he has been a local councilor in his home town of Kilb . He has been a delegate for the Council of European Young Farmers since 2016, and in June 2018 he also became Deputy Chairman of the Lower Austrian Youth Council. He was also involved in rural youth Austria for a year and a half , until March 2019 as federal director. In addition to his work as a farmer, he worked as an agricultural policy advisor in the Lower Austrian Farmers' Union .

European Parliament

In January 2019 his candidacy for the European Parliament was announced. In the European elections in Austria in 2019 , he ran for eleventh place on the ÖVP list. Due to the preferential vote campaign led by the ÖVP and the 30,338 preferential votes he had achieved, he was placed in front and thus obtained a mandate for the European Parliament .

With the constituent session of the 9th European Parliament on July 2, 2019, he moved into the European Parliament as a member. In the 9th electoral term he is a full member of the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and the Committee on Petitions as well as an alternate member of the Committee on Culture and Education .
