Alexander Berzin (* 1944 in Paterson, New Jersey ) is an American author, translator and teacher of Vajrayana - Buddhism .

Life

Alexander Berzin received his BA from the Department of Oriental Studies at Rutgers and Princeton Universities in 1965 . He received an MA in 1967 and a PhD from Harvard University's Far Eastern Languages ​​( Chinese ), Sanskrit and Indology Department in 1972 . Between 1969 and 1998 Alexander Berzin lived mainly in Dharamsala on a Fulbright scholarship , where he also received teachings from lamas of all four great Buddhist traditions ( Nyingma , Kagyu , Sakya and Gelug ) of Tibetan Buddhism . His main teacher at the time was Tsenshab Serkong Rinpoche , whom he served as translator and secretary for nine years, and whom he accompanied on several of his trips around the world.

Alexander Berzin is a founding member of the translation agency of the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives , where he introduced a new conceptual structure to the English translation of important Tibetan terms. In order to have more favorable conditions for writing, Alexander Berzin moved back to the West in 1998 , where he mainly devoted himself to the preparation of his unpublished writings in Berlin .
