Alexander Colwell White

Alexander Colwell White (born December 12, 1833 in Kittanning , Armstrong County , Pennsylvania , †  June 11, 1906 in Brookville , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1885 and 1887 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Alexander White attended his home public schools and the Jacksonville Institute and the Dayton Union Academy . In the meantime he taught himself as a teacher. In 1860 he moved to Jefferson County . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1862, he began to work in this profession in Punxsutawney . During the civil war he served in the Union army for some time . He later moved to Brookville where he practiced as a lawyer. He was elected District Attorney in 1867 and 1870. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party .

In the congressional election of 1884 White was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 25th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Democrat John Denniston Patton on March 4, 1885 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1886, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1887 . After serving in the US House of Representatives, White returned to practice as a lawyer. In the meantime he also acted as justice of the peace in the village of Rose . He died on June 11, 1906 near Brookville, where he was also buried.
