Alexander Gennadjewitsch Kuznetsov ( Russian Александр Геннадьевич Кузнецов ; English transcription Alexander Kuznetsov ; born November 1, 1973 in Moscow ) is a Russian mathematician who deals with algebraic geometry.

Kuznetsov studied from 1990 at the Lomonossow University in Moscow , where he graduated in 1995. This was followed by doctoral studies at Lomonossow and the Independent University of Moscow with a doctorate in 1998 ( Vector bundles on Fano threefolds, instantons and birational transforms ). As a post-doc he was at the Institute for Information Transmission Problems in Moscow. From 2002 he conducted research at the Steklow Institute . He is at the Franco-Russian Laboratoire JV. Poncelet in Moscow. He also teaches at the Independent University of Moscow . Kuznetsov is a professor and corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences .

In 2008 he received the EMS Prize for fundamental contributions in birational projective geometry (homological Lefschetz decompositions, homological projective duality, categorical resolution of singularities), representation theory, homological algebra, mathematical physics and non-commutative geometry. In algebraic geometry he deals, among other things, with mirror symmetry and Fano varieties.

In 2009 he received one of the four prizes for the best young scientists from the Russian President. In 2005 he was one of the winners of the Russian Deligne competition ( initiated by Pierre Deligne for young scientists in Russia).

The Kusnetsov trace formula of number theory does not come from him, but from the Russian mathematician Nikolai Wassiljewitsch Kuznetsov (1939-2010).
