Alexander Haas (biologist)

Alexander Haas (* 1964 in Heilbronn ) is a German biologist and has been a professor at the University of Hamburg since 2003 .

Alexander Haas is head of the Herpetology Section at the Zoological Museum of the University of Hamburg . The call to Hamburg was preceded by studies at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen , one year at the University of California, Berkeley (California) and nine years at the University of Jena .

Together with his colleague Professor Indraneil Das from Malaysia , Haas has carried out an inventory of frog species and tadpoles in the Malaysian states of Sarawak and Sabah on Borneo since 2004 . The research of the project Inventory and Biodiversity of the Frog Fauna of East Malaysia with emphasis on their larval forms was supported by the Volkswagen Foundation .

In relation to biodiversity protection, he advocates basic taxonomic work, as this would be necessary for a rapid assessment of diversity.
