Alexander Hahn - on the go

Alexander Hahn (born June 9, 1954 in Rapperswil SG ; resident in Rapperswil SG) is a computer and video artist. One of the most prominent video pioneers in Switzerland, he is one of those artists who have continuously developed the medium as a content and technical research platform between image, animation and construction.

Life

Hahn grew up in Rapperswil SG. He attended high school at the Zurich Oberland Cantonal School in Wetzikon (1966–1973), where he first came into contact with a computer. In the programming language APL he created a snake and ladder game. After graduating from high school, he studied from 1974 to 1979 at the Kunstgewerbeschule, today's Zurich University of the Arts. During this time his first videos and Super8 films were made, e.g. B. Flight and Glass (1976) or the Mockumentary Demis (1977) about the singer Demis Roussos . In 1981 he moved to New York and took part in the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program (ISP).

In 1990 he spent a year at the Istituto Svizzero in Rome. From 1991 to 1994 he lived in Berlin, first as a scholarship holder at the DAAD ( German Academic Exchange Service ), then as an artist in residence at ART + COM . From 1995 to 1997 he lived in Warsaw. Today Hahn lives and works in New York's Lower East Side and in Zurich.

plant

Since his debut in 1978 at the Apropos gallery in Lucerne, Hahn has shown his work in over 20 solo exhibitions and in more than 100 group exhibitions and video festivals around the world. The monograph Alexander Hahn :: Werke - Works 1976 - 2006 was published by Kehrer Verlag, Heidelberg .
