Alexander Hermann von Merode zu Houffalize (born August 17, 1742 ; † February 4, 1792 in Hildesheim ) was provost in Hildesheim and canon in various dioceses.

Life

Alexander Hermann von Merode zu Houffalize was born as the son of Gotfried Arnold Edmund Ignaz von Merode zu Houffalize (1704-1757) and his wife Carolina Maria Catharina Countess of Nesselrode zu Ehreshoven (1714-18768). First he received a Dompräbende in Trier in 1751 and in Hildesheim in 1764 . After studying at the University of Reims from 1766 to 1767, he was appointed capitular on November 5, 1774 and a year later cathedral cantor. On January 4, 1779 he became archbishop chaplain . After Alexander Hermann had been elected Provost of the Cathedral in Hildesheim in 1789 , the Prince-Bishop appointed him President of the Chamber. In the course of the coadjutor election in 1780 he came into the possession of a Münster prebende, which he had received from Johann Friedrich von Hoensbrock . Alexander Hermann was very ambitious and began studying at the beginning of 1791 in Mainz , but had to give up in the summer of that year because of his poor health. His plan to resume his studies the following winter did not come true. He died on February 4, 1792 in Hildesheim.
