Alexander Kapp (born February 28, 1955 in Heidelberg ) is a German dermatologist and allergist as well as university professor and medical director of the Clinic for Dermatology, Allergology and Venereology at the Hannover Medical School . He is known for his scientific contributions to the pathophysiology of inflammatory skin diseases ( neurodermatitis , psoriasis ) as well as in basic research on neuro-immunological interactions in allergic inflammation and the investigation of the role of eosinophilic granulocytes in these processes.

Life

Kapp studied human medicine from 1974 to 1980 at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . After completing his doctorate on the subject of T lymphocyte function in atopic neurodermatitis , research stays at the Institute for Immunology at the University of Heidelberg, in the Experimental Dermatology Department at the University Dermatology Clinic and at the Max Planck Institute for Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Freiburg. After completing his specialist training at the University of Freiburg, Kapp completed his habilitation in 1988 on the subject of "Activation of the oxidative metabolism of polymorphonuclear neutrophil granulocytes by cytokines from mononuclear cells and epidermal cells" and was senior physician until 1994 and most recently deputy medical director of the Freiburg University Dermatology Clinic. From 1990 to 1994 he was also head of the "Allergology and Immunodiagnostics" department at the University Dermatology Clinic in Freiburg. Since 1994, Kapp has held a chair and medical director of the Clinic for Dermatology, Allergology and Venereology at the Hannover Medical School . Alexander Kapp is a brother of the Indologist and linguist Dieter B. Kapp .

Scientific contribution

Kapp worked intensively on in-vitro allergy diagnostics of allergic inflammation. His clinical focus is on researching the pathophysiological basis of inflammatory skin diseases, in particular atopic dermatitis / neurodermatitis . In allergology, his research interests lie in insect venom allergies and allergic rhinitis , especially in the specific immunotherapy of these diseases. Another focus of Kapp is the diagnosis and therapy of chronic urticaria (hives) . The genetics, diagnostics and therapy of malignant skin tumors are also among his scientific interests. In addition, Kapp is significantly involved in the creation of national and European guidelines on allergological topics. He is investigator in numerous clinical studies and study director of national and European multi-center studies in the field of dermatology and allergology. He also works as a study doctor and coordinator of numerous in vitro studies in the field of inflammation research and allergology.

Memberships in scientific associations

Kapp is a member of the following scientific associations: German Dermatological Society (DDG) , German-Japanese Society for Dermatology (GJSD) , German Society for Dermopharmacy , European Dermatology Forum (EDF) , European Society for Dermatological Research (ESDR) , German Society for Allergology and Clinical Immunology (DGAKI) , European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), Association of German Allergologists (AeDA), Collegium Internationale Allergologicum (CIA) , Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy , Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI) .
