Alexander Karin

Alexander Karin (born January 31, 1925 in Neustrelitz ) is a former general of the National People's Army of the German Democratic Republic .

Military career

As the son of a bookbinder, Karin completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk from 1942 to 1943 after attending school, which he completed with a secondary school leaving certificate. From 1943 until the end of the war he then served in a naval flak department of the Wehrmacht. On May 8, 1945 he was taken as a senior ensign in Soviet captivity, from which he was released in 1949.

After his return to the Soviet occupation zone , he was state instructor and deputy head of the state school of the Society for German-Soviet Friendship in Schwerin until 1950 . In 1950 he moved to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , where he held the position of chief clerk until 1952, and later of a consultant, senior consultant and chief consultant. In 1951 he joined the SED .

On July 15, 1952, Karin joined the Kasernierte Volkspolizei (KVP) and was there until the end of the year as an information officer in the administration of the See People's Police . In 1952 he rose to the position of deputy head of department in the Enlightenment Administration of the CIP, which he remained until 1954. He then attended a college for officers until 1955 as an officer auditor. In 1955 Karin became deputy chief department head for reconnaissance in the Ministry of the Interior, or after its establishment in the Ministry of National Defense (MfNV). In 1956 he became head of this main department with the code name Administration 19 . From 1963 to 1965 Karin studied at the General Staff Academy in the Soviet Union . After his return he was from 1965 until his retirement on April 30, 1988 Deputy Head of the Enlightenment Administration and Head of Information at the MfNV . On October 7, 1980, he was appointed major general in this position.
