Alexander Mikhailovich Sujew
Alexander Mikhailovich Sujew ( Russian Александр Михайлович Зуев ; born July 17, 1961 in the Soviet Union , † June 10, 2001 in the USA ) was a Soviet military pilot and deserter .
Zuyev was captain of the Soviet air forces with barracks Senaki in Georgia . On May 20, 1989, he fled with a stolen MiG-29 across the Black Sea to Trabzon Airport in Turkey . Turkey denied the US the requested investigation into the plane that was being returned to the Soviet Union.
Alexander Sujew was granted asylum in the USA, where he died in a plane accident in June 2001.
