Alexander Scheuer

Alexander Scheuer (* 1968 in Aachen ) is a German lawyer and is responsible for media policy and media regulation at DTAG. From 2000 to 2013 he was managing director of the Institute for European Media Law (EMR) in Saarbrücken / Brussels.

Life

Scheuer studied law at the Saarland University and the Katholieke University of Leuven in Belgium. In 1994 he completed the postgraduate course “European Integration” at the Europa-Institut , Law Section, Saarland University. From 1994 to 1995 he also held the position of deputy managing director at the Europa-Institut. From 1994 to 1996 he was a trainee lawyer at the Saarland Higher Regional Court . In 1996 he became a research associate and deputy managing director of the Institute for European Media Law. V. (EMR), from September 2000 to June 2013 he was its managing director and in this function also a member of the institute's board of directors. He was above the 2000 Lawyer admitted. Since July 2013, he has been the responsible employee in the field of media policy and media regulation at Deutsche Telekom , Bonn.

From 2001 to 2013, Scheuer was a member of the Advisory Committee of the European Audiovisual Observatory (EAI) in Strasbourg, and since 1998 he has been a member of the editorial committee of “IRIS - Legal Review”. In 2004 he was appointed to the board of trustees of the Freiwilligen Selbstkontrolle Fernsehen eV (FSF) in Berlin, where he was deputy chairman from 2013 to 2016. From 2012 to 2013 he worked in the Center for Child Protection on the Internet (I-KiZ) set up at the Federal Youth Ministry. In 2017 he was appointed by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media (BKM) to the administrative board of the Federal Film Funding Agency (FFA), where he represents the associations Anga, bitkom and eco .

He regularly gives lectures on national and European media, telecommunications, youth protection and copyright law and takes part in relevant panel discussions. He often moderated panel discussions on these topics, including a. in the context of media expert seminars of various EU Council presidencies, and was an author and editor of publications a. a. active in the aforementioned areas of law. Scheuer is co-editor and author of the English-language commentary " European Media Law ", was co-author of the commentary on the EU treaties from 1999 and until 2013 was part of the editorial team of the EMR series, some of which he co-edited.
