Alexander Dmitrievich Zhukov
Alexander Dmitrijewitsch Schukow ( Russian Алекса́ндр Дми́триевич Жу́ков ; born June 1, 1956 in Moscow , Soviet Union ) is a Russian politician and economist. He is a Duma deputy and first deputy chairman of the Duma. From 2010-2018 he was President of the National Olympic Committee of Russia .
biography
Zhukov attended middle school 444 in Moscow and completed a degree in economics at Lomonosov University by 1978 . He then worked in the Ministry of Finance of the Soviet Union. In 1991 he completed a year of study in the United States at Harvard University .
From 1993 to 2004 he was a member of the Russian State Duma . He was head of the Tax and Budget Committee and at times first deputy chairman of the Duma.
From 1998 to 2003 he was a member of the Supervisory Board of Sberbank and a member of the Economic Council of the Russian government.
In March 2004, Zhukov was appointed Vice Prime Minister, in this role he was responsible, among other things, for the implementation of the program of National Projects of Russia . He also holds the office of Chairman of the Board of Directors of Russian Railways (RŽD) and is also a member of the Presidium of the ruling United Russia party . In December 2011, Zhukov was elected as a member of the Duma elections and resigned as deputy prime minister. On December 21, 2011, he was elected the first deputy duma chairman.
Zhukov was president of the Russian Chess Federation between 2003 and 2009 , and in this role he campaigned for the introduction of chess as an Olympic discipline.
In May 2010 he was elected President of the Russian National Olympic Committee. His predecessor Leonid Tyagachev resigned after Russia's disappointing performance at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. In 2013 Zhukov became a member of the IOC. In 2017 he was suspended by the IOC because of the doping scandal triggered by the McLaren Report .
Zhukov is married and has one son.
