Alexander Vaisman

Alexander Naumowitsch Vaisman (born June 4, 1938 in Charkow - † May 5, 2019 ) was a Ukrainian chess player . He was European champion in correspondence chess .

Vaisman took part in the championship of Ukraine several times, for the first time in 1958. In 1975 he won this competition in Dnepropetrovsk . In 1964 he was awarded the title of Master of Sports of the USSR . Since 2011 he has held the title of FIDE Senior Trainer .

Correspondence chess

He started correspondence chess in the mid-1960s. He won a major tournament in the European master class and thus qualified for participation in the 9th European Championship. Here he won tied with the Romanian Aurel Anton with 11.5 points from 14. Since the fine scoring after Sonneborn-Berger was tied, both were European champions. In 1975 he was awarded the title of International Correspondence Chess Master by the ICCF for his successes . In the final of the 9th World Cup in 1977, he took a place in midfield.

Private

Vaisman was an electrical engineer by profession. He works as a chess trainer and had two children.
