Alexander Verl

Alexander Verl (born July 13, 1966 in Frunze , USSR , today (Bishkek), Kyrgyzstan ) is a professor at the University of Stuttgart and professor for control technology for machine tools and manufacturing facilities as well as the former head of the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Engineering and Automation (IPA).

Life

After studying electrical engineering at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg from 1986 to 1991, Alexander Verl worked as a development engineer at Siemens AG in Erlangen in the field of automation technology. In 1994 he moved to the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Oberpfaffenhofen, where he received his doctorate in 1997 in the field of robotics and mechatronics. Also in 1997 he founded AMATEC Robotics GmbH.

He has been director of the Institute for Control Technology for Machine Tools and Manufacturing Systems (ISW) at the University of Stuttgart since 2005 as the successor to Professor Günter Pritschow and since 2006 one of the two directors of the Stuttgart Fraunhofer Institute for Production Engineering and Automation (IPA) as the successor to Rolf Dieter Schraft .

As part of his teaching activities at the Faculty of Construction, Production and Vehicle Technology at the University of Stuttgart, he is the Dean of Studies for the Mechatronics course .

From April 1, 2014 to August 31, 2015, Alexander Verl was appointed director of technology marketing and business models at the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft .

Alexander Verl is married and has three children.

  • In 2010 he received the IERA Award from the Robotics and Automation Society ( IEEE / RAS) and the International Federation of Robotics (IFR) for the innovations he initiated in the field of inline measurement technology and his entrepreneurial performance in setting up the company AMATEC .
  • 2012 Julius von Haast Fellowship Award from the Royal Society of New Zealand and Honorary Professorship from the University of Auckland.
  • Awarded an honorary doctorate (Dr. hc) from the “Politehnica” University of Timisoara and the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, both from Romania
