From 1984 to 2005 he headed the Institute for Control Technology for Machine Tools and Manufacturing Facilities (ISW) at the University of Stuttgart . From 1986 to 1990 he was Vice Rector for Teaching and from 1996 to 2000 Rector of this university.

Professional and academic career

Pritschow attended elementary school and high school in Berlin-Schöneberg from 1945 to 1958 and studied communications engineering at the TU Berlin from 1959 to 1966 . After three years at Siemens as a development engineer and laboratory manager in the field of electronic measuring and control devices, he returned to the TU Berlin in 1969 and received his doctorate in 1972 at the Institute for Machine Tools and Manufacturing Technology under Günter Spur . After completing his doctorate, he took over the production engineering development department at the Gartenfeld cable factory at Siemens. In 1976 he returned to Günter Spur's institute as a professor in the field of automation technology for quality assurance and production. In 1980 he then moved to Bertelsmann in the Industrial Companies division. Pritschow took over the Central Technology division and later headed the Technology and Production Assurance division at Mohndruck Graphische Betriebe GmbH.

In 1984 Pritschow succeeded Gottfried Stute as director of the Institute for Control Technology for Machine Tools and Manufacturing Facilities (ISW) at the University of Stuttgart . Pritschow expanded the ISW, with the significant participation of industry, into a facility that is one of the leaders in Germany in the fields of open controls and control and drive technology for machine tools . In addition to his work as director of the ISW, he was prorector for teaching from 1986 to 1990 and rector of the University of Stuttgart from 1996 to 2000. In 1987 he was involved as a co-founder of Industrielle Steuerungstechnik GmbH (ISG), which has been developing CNC core software on the basis of open controls as OEM software since 1990 and is also known as the manufacturer of the real-time simulation system "virtuos".

In the years 2009 to 2012, he served as a founding representative of the newly established college campus Tuttlingen of Furtwangen University .

Pritschow was head of training and knowledge management at the German Academy of Engineering Sciences (acatech) until 2010 .

He is a member of the Scientific Society for Production Technology (WGP) , of which he was chairman from 2001 to 2003. Since 1987 he has been a member of the International Society for Production Technology (CIRP) . a. Member of the Editorial Committee and Chairman Machines.
