Life

Alexander Wargon was the son of Mendel and Bluma Wargon. The family was taken prisoner in the Warsaw ghetto , from which Alexander Wargon managed to escape to Palestine at the age of 16 . There he received approval to attend engineering school. In May 1948, when the State of Israel was established, the school closed and the students were drafted into the army as part of the mobilization. Wargon was assigned to the corps that built bridges and other traffic structures. After the end of the Palestine War, Wargon graduated with honors.

Before moving to Boston in the United States of America , he married his wife, Hannah Waxman. In 1954 he completed further training in the construction of high-rise buildings and took a leading position in a civil engineering company. After five years of activity, he saw new opportunities for the challenges in Sydney , Australia , where he immigrated in March 1958.

In Sydney he first worked for Rankine and Hill and later founded his own company. Encouraged by expansion, he teamed up with Robert Chapman to form Wargon Chapman and Partners . Together with Donald Crone , he designed the Centrepoint Tower, which was later named Sydney Tower . Another of his outstanding engineering achievements is the Sydney Harbor Tunnel . Wargon has also taught civil engineering and architecture at Sydney University and the University of New South Wales.

In 1991 Wargon sold his company, which from then on traded under the name of Hyder Consulting , gave up his engineering activity, but continued to give lectures at the two universities.
